What is metabolic syndrome?

"Metabolic syndrome ... is a clustering of at least three of the five following medical conditions:

  • abdominal (central) obesity
  • elevated blood pressure
  • elevated fasting plasma glucose
  • high serum triglycerides
  • low high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels"
